Mateo definitely recognizes three words: gatito (kitty), ventilador (referring to the ceiling fan) and luna (moon, but only the crescent shaped version in Sandra Boynton’s books). We can tell he knows these words because he’ll look and/or point at the objects when you ask: “donde esta _____?”
Of course, if you ask “donde esta mama?” or “donde esta papa” he just kind of gives you a blank stare or ignores you. Well, I guess everybody has their own priorities!

Yes, I’m a proud witness of it.

For what it’s worth, he does not consistently respond to the same questions in Russian, despite the fact that both the words for a fan and the moon are the same as in Spanish but with the accent on a different syllable.

That’s funny that he gives you a blank stare or ignores you. Maybe he’s pretending that he’s one of the kitties! Such a smart boy, that Mateo.
